Why Ranked Here: I’m a kind of a softy for the Beato story. The Mets drafted Beato in the 17th round out of Xavarian HS in Brooklyn back in 2005, but couldn’t get a deal done once his velocity (and value) had risen approaching the 2006 draft. The Orioles popped him in the first round and paid him roughly $1 million. He didn’t really work out as a starter, and they converted him to relief at AA Bowie last year with great success.
He can sit in the mid-90s and top out at 97. Andy McCullough wrote that he has a four-seamer, a two-searmer, a cutter, a curveball and a changeup. His breaking ball has been described as short and nasty at times.
2010: Converted to a reliever, Beato had a really nice first season as a reliever in 2010.
He owned a strange home/road split that’s probably little more than small sample sizes:
| ERA | G | IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | SO | BB/9 | SO/9 | SO/BB | HR/9 | H/9 | |
| Home | 3.24 | 24 | 33.3 | 27 | 12 | 12 | 2 | 13 | 26 | 3.5 | 7.0 | 2.0 | 0.5 | 7.3 |

Dr. Pangloss Says: A dominant reliever and possible successor to K-Rod as a closer.
Debbie Downer Says: His K/rate of 7.5 at AA was a little ordinary for my taste.
Projected 2011 Start: Big league bullpen.
