Weekend Open Thread

By Toby Hyde on 27. Jun, 2008

I’m off to the beach for the weekend.  In my experience, sand and computers don’t mix all that well.  I’ll be back either late Sunday or Monday night.

Lets go Mets.

You can drop comments for any of this weekend’s action here.  Have fun.

Recap: Eric Reed Steals Home – 6-26

By Toby Hyde on 27. Jun, 2008

Eric Reed

Binghamton (AA – Eastern League)

@ Binghamton Mets 4, Altoona Curve 3

CF Eric Reed (pictured) was 2-4, and joined Jose Reyes as one of four players in Binghamton Mets history to steal home. With Mike Carp at first and Reed at third, on a 3-1 count, Carp took off for second. Despite a pitch high for ball four, the Curve catcher threw through to second, allowing Reed to steal home.

Jose Sanchez worked six good frames for the B-Mets, improving to 7-4 with a 4.15 Era. He allowed just one run on seven hits, fanning six. Eude Brito was charged with a run out of the bullpen for the first time in almost two months. He left the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth for Eddie Kunz who gave up a two-run single to move the tying run into scoring position, before getting a ground ball out for his 20th save.

Recap: Holt Deals + Davis Debuts + Church Rehab = Fun in Brooklyn – 6-26

By Toby Hyde on 27. Jun, 2008

Brooklyn (SSA – New York Penn League)

@ Brooklyn Cyclones 4, Aberdeen Ironbirds 2

Three big story lines from Brooklyn Thursday.

· Supplemental first rounder Brad Holt (pictured) threw five no-hit innings, walking one and striking out six. He told MiLB.com he did it with, “a little bit of everything. Fastballs down, in and out, both sides of the plate. I showed changeups every now and then. I threw a couple breaking balls, but, basically it was the same [as in college]. I just keep attacking with the fastball.”

· The Mets top pick, Ike Davis made his professional debut going 1-4 with a double.

· Rehabbing Ryan Church was 3-3 with a run and RBI.

Recap: The SW/WF Show Continues in Kingsport – 6-26

By Toby Hyde on 27. Jun, 2008

Kingsport (R – Appalachian League)

@ Kingsport Mets 8, Pulaski Mariners 3

Ten games into his career, SS Wilmer Flores needs a nickname. All he did Wednesday was go 4-5 with a triple and three RBI to push his batting average to an even .400 (18 H/45 AB). 3B Stephen Welch was 3-5 with a double, a triple and four RBI. Welch is hitting a robust .364/.421/.545 after nine contests.

No pitching performances stuck out to me.
