I’d planned to catch up on some sleep and maybe get a little writing done on my bus ride out to
Binghamton. On the 20-80 scouting scale, when it comes to sleeping ability, I’m at least a 70 if not a 75. I can sleep anywhere at anytime: buses, planes, trains, cars, vans, sitting, laying, slouched, squished. It just doesn’t matter. Often on flights for example, I’m out before the plane takes off.
One of my longstanding tricks involves listening to the Greatful Dead’s brilliant American Beauty on my ipod. It begins with Box of Rain and I’m usually asleep by the end of the third song, Sugar Magnolia. At one point a few years ago, I remember listening to the album all the way through and rediscovering how good the final four songs (Brokedown Palace, Till the Morning Comes, Attics of My LIfe and Truckin) actually were since I was usually asleep before I got that far. As a n aside, when I’m alert and in the mood for the Dead, I usually go to a live concert recording rather than the studio albums.
For whatever reason Monday morning, I couldn’t get to sleep to American Beauty and listened to the whole thing all the way to Truckin’ without drifting off to sleep. Instead, Sigur Ros’ ( ) which I put on next, worked brilliantly as a sedative.
Lots of roster movement among the affiliates today. I’ll post that shortly, but first I’m headed to NYSEG Stadium.
