Smokey, thank you.

I'm a firm believer that minor league analysts must see games themselves, and that's all I'll say with regard to other sites.

Signing international players is kinda random... If no other scouts are on him, the Mets don't have to pay him a ton. I don't know what they paid Mejia. Remember too, buscones and bird dog type scouts have a lot of influence in the Dominican. It's a very weird business down there.

TOBYMEISTER--

By far your best and most in-depth post yet. Even though I saw the kid start on TV on that day off a couple weeks ago, the video was money because of the rewind value.

His stuff is pretty dynamite for an 18-year-old. Moves everywhere. Thus, he has some control issues he needs to work out, but nothing major, it seems. You're talking about refining a tertiary pitch as his biggest mission. That's huge.

The second point I wanna make (no Mike & The Mad Dog)-- how in the name of The Great Buddha is this kid SELLING SNO CONES three years ago? Are you serious? Where do the Mets scouting staff find kids like him? Satellite cameras on the ballfields? Moles in the pickup games? How much did they pay him? How many more rhetorical questions can I ask before you get annoyed at me? Doesn't he seem like he would've been a good candidate for a million-dollar bonus?

I'll be following his journey through the minors, of which there's a lot left to go. Here's to his continuing success at the higher levels, where we'll really see if he holds up. Until then, I'm gonna temper my excitement.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK T-MONEY you have the best minor league blog on the Internets (when do you ever see John Sickels with a post like this? NEVER)
