Transactions: Niese UP and the Dominos Behind

By Toby Hyde on 28. Jul, 2008

Adam Rubin reported Monday that Jon Niese has been promoted to triple-A New Orleans. The Zephyrs haven’t made the move official, but Niese is not among the B-Mets scheduled starters for the coming week despite being on the field Monday afternoon. Eude Brito has officially joined New Orleans to take the spot vacated by Willie Collazo.

Entering Monday, the Zephyrs have 22 players on their roster. New Orleans has had a full roster of 24 players in 24 of 109 games.

Emmanuel Garcia left the Binghamton team Monday morning to join the Canadian Olympic team. He replaces Pete Orr, who was called up to the Braves. Garcia was placed on the temporarily inactive list by the B-Mets. Binghamton Manager Mako Oliveras praised Garcia’s improvement, “he was getting better everyday.”

Monday, three players were promoted from advanced-A St. Lucie to double-A Binghamton. 3B Shawn Bowman, who had crushed FSL pitching to a .340/.369/.485 line in 26 games, is currently serving a suspension for his role in a St. Lucie brawl, but will be active on Tuesday. RHP Elvys Quezada (2-0, 2.23) and RHP Casey Hoorelbeke (1-4, 4.89) join the B-Mets ‘pen.

Binghamton’s probable starting rotation for the upcoming week:

Monday – Jose Sanchez

Tuesday – Eric Brown

Wednesday – Michael Antonini

Thursday – Tobi Stoner

Friday – Bobby Parnell

Nick Abel (3-1, 1.16 in 23.1 IP in Savannah) was promoted from Savannah to St. Lucie while IF Jake Eigsti hops from Brooklyn to St. Lucie.
Stephen Puhl (3-0, 2.40, 15 IP, 8 H, 7 BB, 20 K) was promoted from Kinsport to Savannah.

If Bowman got promoted to AA, it would seem to create a logjam with Carp, Murphy and Evans once he is sent back down, since Bowman really is a corner infield. Are the Mets planning on promoting some of ther sluggers to AAA?

interesting questions. Evans could go down to NO rather than Binghamton. Problems of “too much talent” usually find a way to resolve themselves. There’s plenty of AB for all four guys between 1B, 3B, LF and DH. Add in that Murph can play 2B and I see a stacked lineup.

I would think that the case, especially with Manny Garcia going to the olympics, more likely Murphy will get more time at 2B, no?

Nice to see Niese moving along, hopefully he dominates AAA.

I hope Bowman forces Murphy to 2b permanently.

Hope you enjoy Bingo, Toby! The affiliate is a reflection of the major league team in more ways than one… there are as many auto shops and industrial lots around NYSEG as there are Shea.

Oh well, at least Binghamton has a nice… uhh…. …mall?

Actually there are a few decent bars/coffee shops/restaurants around state street if you look, but you’re there for the baseball, not the night life.

“Brooklyn Cyclones Ike Davis left the game due to an injured foot/ankle. ”

He grounded out to first in the top of the first and then didnt take the field.

    1) What has become of Juan Padilla? He is no longer on the Zephers roster on milb.com…

    2) The B’mets are playing a double header tonight with 9 useable position players on the roster and no DH. Thats nuts…

    3) Sal Aguilar isnt starting game two tonight, and you dont have him on your upcoming rotation. Whats up there? Hopefully they are sending him to AAA as well. No need having Jose Santiago and Tim McNab starting games when there are more than enough quality starters to go around. Or maybe Olympics for him too?

      1. Juan Padilla was released on July 14th.
      2. Yeah, not a lot of choices to Mako Oliveras.
      3. Good question on Aguilar. Lots of things in flux this week, but I’ll ask…

Thanks, shame about Padilla. He had all the potential of Duaner Sanchez and never got a real chance to show it off.

Yup, injuries suck. I guess the Mets just couldn’t wait for him any longer, which is too bad, because he certainly did show promise when he was up with the big club a few years back.

Aguilar’s got some arm soreness and will given some time. He’s not going to AAA.

Well, Aguilar, Parnell, and Niese are all right around the number of innings they pitched last year, so this should be an interesting few weeks.
