Brooklyn (SSA – New York Penn League)

@ Brooklyn Cyclones 3, Oneonta 1

Brad Holt was wild. He gave up one run on four hits and three walks in five innings while bouncing two wild pitches. He struck out five. Roy Merritt struck out two in his three shutout innings. Jim Johnson punched out two in the ninth in nailing down his first save.

CF Sean Ratliff was 2-4 with a solo homer and three RBI. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Jordan Abruzzo were each 2-4 with two singles.

Did Holt knock down Sandy the Seagull, too?

Honestly, (5 ip, 4 hits 3 walks and 1 run) we have seen worse pitching lines at Shea this year from our bullpen only it doesn’t include the 5 innings pitched. Toby any idea of what they are working with this kid on to improve? What do they consider his weakness?

1. Fastball command.
2. refining his hard curveball
3. learning a changeup. When I saw him he didn’t need the changeup against NYP league hitters and barely threw it at all.
