Mike Waters in the Syracuse Post-Standard reports that the Chiefs will inform Major League Baseball and the International League that the team will not renew its affiliation with Toronto and seek a new partner. Waters explains that “The Chiefs are expected to make a major play for the Mets.” A Chiefs season seat holder sang the National Anthem Monday while wearing a Mets jersey.
Mike Harrington in the Buffalo News also reports that the Cleveland Indians officially filed the
paperwork with Major League Baseball severing their relationship with the Buffalo Bisons. “The Bisons, meanwhile, are expected to sign with either the Toronto Blue Jays or New York Mets.”
Note that in Syracuse’s case, the paperwork was initiated by the minor league team while in Buffalo, the Major League team did the honors. This points out the reciprocal nature of the contracts: both parties must want to be there.
Major League teams can officially begin to negotiate with potential affiliates on September 18th.

I no longer have the article link but I recall reading that a high ranking NY politician named Chuck was ‘working’ to get the Mets into Syracuse, and a Buffalo/Toronto union makes a lot of sense to me as I consider Buffalo the gateway to Toronto, so I hope the Indians AAA team likes New Orleans.
Kind of a slap in the face to the Jays that the anthem singer/season ticket holder wore a Met jersey. Well done by that fan.
You’re thinking of United States Senator Chuck Schumer.
The Indians are moving their AAA affiliate to the new stadium in Columbus, OH.
Regarding the Senator, of course you’re correct. I just prefer to be as vague as possible because it is one of my life goals to keep politics out of my pleasant diversions from reality, so I take the ‘less said the better’ course, and also I couldn’t remember how to spell his last name and I was too lazy to look it up.
Ah, I see. And I understand. I generally try to avoid mixing baseball and politics as well.
Also, thank you for the info on Columbus, I had failed to realize that no one moved in when the Clippers moved out. Having driven past the ‘old’ Columbus Stadium once and glanced quickly over my shoulder at it at Interstate speed, I’m glad to hear they’ve got a new one.
The Clippers haven’t moved out. They’ve played the last two years as a Nats affiliate.
The Yankees shifted their affiliation two years ago from the Columbus Clippers to the Scranton franchise. Concomitantly, the Scranton team changed their name from the Red Barons to the Yankees.
Speaking of Buffalo being a gateway to Toronto, any Syracuse or NYC resident may be calling Syracuse a sort of gateway to the city. Syracuse University has endless ties in the city and is gaining a reputation as NY’s college team, especially in basketball for the Carrier Dome and the many games at MSG.
Such great football heritage too. Soo they’re off to another roaring start this year…
looks like the Nats will end up being forced back into New Orleans after two years away.
Big Rob Conrad #44. Donovan McNabb. Those were good times for ‘Cuse.
Which team will be .500 first: Syracuse football or the New York Knickerbockers?
The Knicks
The big east is so weak now you would hope SU could at least go .500
Here’s hoping the Knicks have another year of bottoming out so they can actually build towards something. Unless of course they traded their first round draft pick again…
