A few things I found interesting from Omar Minaya’s meeting with reporters in Las Vegas immediately after the press conference to announce JJ Putz.

He said of the media coverage of the Mets minor leagues that he was hearing that:

We don’t have the minor leaguers to do things.  Please guys, don’t write this anymore.  …. We’ve got some bluechip, premium guys in our system right now.

Minaya mentioned that he had been working on a trade for Putz before negotiations with Rodriguez became serious.  After trade negotiations stalled, he moved on to K-Rod, but was pleased Putz was still available, saying:

I thought a lot of teams would be in on Putz before me.
