Guerra Suspended 50 Games

By Toby Hyde on 19. Jan, 2009

junior-guerra-headshotMLB has suspended right-handed reliever Junior Guerra for fifty games for testing positive for an anabolic steroid.  Guerra will serve the suspension to begin the 2009 season.  He tested positive for metabolites of nandrolone, which is the the generic name for the active component of Deca Durabolin.

Roger Clemens was accused by Brian McNamee of using Deca.  The NFL’s Shawn Merriman was suspended for the same drug.

Apparently, the body metabolizes Deca in a different manner than other anabolics.  It is less potent than pure testosterone, but is “less active” in the skin, scalp and prostate.

This news combined with Guerra’s lousy performance in Hawaii makes a bad winter for the righty worse.
