Martinez Has Sore Elbow

By Toby Hyde on 06. Feb, 2009

injury-red-crossFernando Martinez has left the Caribbean World Series for New York to have tests performed on his right elbow, MLB.com reports.

“I felt my elbow tighten up the day before yesterday [after throwing],” Martinez said. “It was a little swollen. It’s better. I feel I can play again. I don’t think I need to fly to New York to get a check up but the Mets want me to.”

It looked like it was all starting to click for the 20-year old Martinez who was coming off a .314/.376/.542 winter in 41 games in the Dominican this winter.  Now, will he be at full strenghth for spring training?  Or is this the start of a bigger issue?
