@ Buffalo Bisons 4, Gwinnett Braves 3 (11 innings)
Angel Pagan lined a two-run walkoff triple to centerfield in the bottom of the 11th (watch) to give the Bisons their second-straight walkoff win. In center, Gregor Blanco played the ball into a triple; he made a dive at the sinking liner, and had it roll by him.
The Bisons began their rally with two outs and no one on in the bottom of the 11th down 3-1. Were they inspired by the Mets win over the Braves?
Dillon Gee made his best start of the year, tying season highs in innings (7) and strikeouts (7) set on separate occasions. He gave up just one run on three hits and walked two.
Nick Evans (pictured) was sent down to extended spring training on Tuesday morning before the game and will return to Binghamton once he clears his mind. Evans was hitting .093/.218/.227 in 75 AB with the Bisons. Manager Ken Oberkfell told the Buffalo News:
“He needs to go down there and mentally more than anything take some pressure off him and relax a little bit. It’s more the mental part than the physical part.”
I meant to post this Tuesday, but following Monday’s game, Mike Harrington in the Buffalo News wrote:
Give it up to the parent New York Mets for paying plenty of attention to the Herd’s struggles. Roving pitching coordinator Rick Waits and pitching consultant Al Jackson were both at the game to watch Redding, who went seven strong innings and threw 97 pitches in his second injury rehab start.
But also on hand were hitting instructor Lamar Johnson and field coordinator Luis Aguayo. Johnson, the former Chicago White Sox slugger with many years of experience as a hitting coach in Triple-A and the big leagues, met with his charges before this one and told them to try to start the season over.
