M
an, am I picking the right week to go see some B-Mets baseball.
C Josh Thole hits the DL with a dislocated thumb so he’ll miss at least the next week.
That’s better than RHP Ryan Coultas, who will miss the entire rest of the season to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Coultas gave Brian Moritz a great quote:
“It’s very frustrating,” Coultas said. “I love pitching. I felt like I’ve found my niche, we’ve got an awesome group of guys here … I’m pretty bummed.”
After Wednesday’s loss which dropped the B-Mets to 3-12 in their last 15 games and 8-24 in their last 32, Manager Mako Oliveras had a 25 minute closed-door post-game meeting. After a twitter back and forth with Brian Moritz (I’m @tobyhyde), I learned that it was the third-such meeting in the last three weeks. Yuck.

Really disappointing news about Coultas, he was having a nice year for the BMets.. hopefully Thole isn’t out too long
Its unfortunate you will not get to see Thole, but at least he should be fine. Shame about Coultas, I guess its not so simple to retrain a shoulder.
Toby, any word on Jose Sanchez, who has been out a month now, or Sal Aguilar who has been on the DL all year? The B-Mets could really use some added arms.
“9:40 AM: It’s been confirmed to by a Mets source that they have signed Venezuelan LHP Juan Urbina, son of former big leaguer Ugueth Urbina. I have also confirmed that the bonus is for over $1 million. I’ll try to track down the specific amount.”

Is there anything on this kid?
A shame if there ever was one. I was looking forward to an updated report on how Coultas was throwing, and some words on Thole.
At least with Mejia/Holt/Tejada, you still won’t lack for interesting subjects. Hopefully you get the chance to see both kids pitch.
No Mejia this weekend either. At least I’ll get some fireworks on Saturday.
heres what it had on Baseball-America on Urbina:
“Juan Urbina, who has a slender 6-foot-1 frame, throws an 88-89 mph fastball that some scouts say has touched 90-91. With a loose arm and a projectable body, Urbina’a fastball projects as a future plus if not plus-plus pitch. Urbina also has a curveball that could be a future plus offering, with a smooth delivery and a clean follow-through.
One scout called Urbina the best lefthanded pitcher he has seen in Venezuela in the last five years, high praise for a country that produced Martin Perez of the Rangers. Scouts say the Mets are the frontrunners to sign Urbina, whose father is currently serving a 14-year prison sentence in Venezuela for attempted murder. Ugueth Urbina was convicted in March 2007 for the 2005 incident in which he attacked five workers on his farm with a machete and poured gasoline on them.”
thought i should add hes 16 yrs old
that really sucks about thole and Coultas
Agreed, but not as much as it sucked for those 5 workers
