Topics for Binghamton

A few things I’m looking forward to seeing/learning:

1. How will Brad Holt respond Thursday night after retiring one batter his last time out?

2. In a good way, what’s gotten into Ike Davis?

3. How come Jenrry Mejia is looking at two weeks off?  He has not pitched since June 23rd and is not listed among the B-Mets starters through the weekend.  Why is this a secret?

4. I’ll be soliciting opinions from scouts on players, and I’ve already got a few great quotes on Thole.

5. How has Manny Garcia taken to the OF?  I’ve heard good things.

6. Has SS/2B Ruben Tejada filled out at all?

7. Why is Michael Antonini working out of the bullpen?  (I doubt I’ll get a straight answer on this.)

8. What did Dylan Owen learn in his recent brief trip back to the FSL?

Ok, that’s more than a few.  Toss yours in here as well.

regarding Owen, he had to come back to take Antonini’s rotation spot. The question might sound sarcastic if it follows the one about Antonini.

I asked somewhere else about Jose Sanchez and Aguilar among other injured pitchers on the B-Mets roster. But I think you pretty much covered it.

I’ll second the question about Sal Aguilar (and the other injured pitchers). I mean, he isn’t really a “prospect”, but Aguilar did put together a pretty nice season last year. It’d be great to find out what the deal is with him (how he’s recovering, etc).

You seem like you’ve got things pretty much covered in your list, though. The only other thing I can think of is the somewhat bizarre batting coach shuffle, but I doubt anyone with any knowledge of that situation would be willing to provide any insight.

Really looking forward to the opinions on Josh Thole, specifically with regards to his catching (his hitting kinda speaks for itself).

Have fun in Bingo. Hope you found a place to crash.

what do you attribute to the poor drafting and/or scouting by the mets in the last twenty or so years. we use to draft well in the 60′s: ryan, gentry, mattlock, and seaver, i think koozman was a trade. not so well in the 70′s: swan, vail, anybody ???? better to good in the 80′s: dykstra, el sid, gooden, aguilla, mcdowell, mookie. not so good in the 90′s: ???
better although not great in 2000′s wright, reyes, pelfrey, thole, murphy, evans, humber, pena, pellot.

compare and contrast to teams with good minor league systems like the twins, brewers, dodgers, braves, yankees, note- i excluded the rangers and A’s who get a boat load of prospects in trades and teams like the rays and marlins who usually pick first or trade players for prospects.

yankees will be signing three top latin prospects while the mets sign one.

omar, must get better scouts, pay above slot for guys like bellance, beanto and sign more international fa in asia and latin america, since we usually don’t have a 1st round draft pick and lastly omar must not get fleeced for a few extra prospects EVERY time he makes a trade.

toby, get a job with the front office and help the mets out with scouting and drafting, then you can hire me.

I am very unlikely to get a job in the Mets front office.

    Toby,
Make sure that if you are sitting near all the scouts that you don’t say anything bad about our players!

    Toby,
How about finding out what their plans are for Shawn Bowman? He’s killing the ball while he’s healthy and he’s only really played 3B, are they trying to move him into some new positions (LF, RF, 1B) so if he does stay healthy and keeps up the great bat they have a spot for him on the major league roster? Obviously he has no future at 3B and with all the injuries the Mets have, I’d really love to see him get a shot just to see what he can do while he’s healthy and hot.
