Baseball America Names Holt and Mejia Top 50 Prospects
By Toby Hyde - Jul 9, 2009 4:03 pm

baseball-america-logo.jpgBaseball America released their new Top 50 prospects list today.  Brad Holt and Jenrry Mejia both made the cut in the 26-50 range.

Both righties blew through Advanced-A this year on their way to AA.  Holt missed a couple of starts with an ankle injury, and has taken three starts to shake off the rust, but is conclusively back after a 10 strikeout/1 walk effort over five innings Wednesday night.

Mejia hasn’t pitched since June 23rd.  In his first four AA starts, he’s fanned 24, walked nine and posted a gb/fb ratio of two while hitting 97 and regularly throwing 94-95 mph.

In my original post, I mistakenly posted specific rankings for each player.  Instead, BA just listed players 26-50 in alphabetical order.

some of that list is questionable, as is a lot of what BA does, but it’s a good sign.

regardless, as keith law pointed out today, “why do people say the mets farm system is terrible? flores, holt, martinez, mejia and davis is a solid top 5″

Well i could just say right now it’s got to be because Mejia is on the DL (we all know it’s to limit his innings) and Holt is healthy. Also Holt has a better Pitchers Frame at 6′4 and Mejia is only 6′0.

You know people look at that and not weather they can succeed. happens in all sports.

Like with my Giants.. Antonio Pierce wasn’t Drafted because he was 5′11. Had nothing to do with his production in college. Same with Zach Thomas.

baseball terms.. pedro martinez was never supposed to last as a SP.

also, can we get some scouting on holt from last night? namely if he was killing people with a nasty hammer curve?

i’ll pay for it. if you need to grease some wheels.

Guzman has his 10th HR of the year for St Lucie who scored 8 runs thru just 2 innings already; wow.. Stefan Welch struggled in Savannah but has come to St Lucie and has really hit; very small sample yet though..

Dylan Owen with another shutout performance for Bingy. He has a 22 inning scoreless streak going.

Cyclones scoreless in the 12th. If you left Citi early tonight maybe you can catch the end of that one…

John Servidio had been 6 of his last 12 getting his BA back up into respectable range. But tonight he is if 0 of 6, undoing three days of progress…

Honeck is the only Cyclone with two hits, but he was PH for… is Jerry Manual managing this game too?

Darin Gorski, making his first start tonight after two relief outings, went 6 allowing just 1 hit and 2 BB while K’ing 7.

There have been 25 strike outs through 15 full innings, with just 19 total base runners. Team batting averages for both teams will need all year to recover from this one.
