Tobi Stoner throws for Buffalo vs. Pawtucket.

Eric Niesen, coming off his best performance in AA leads the B-Mets into New Britain.

Jeffrey Kaplan is scheduled to throw for St. Lucie while Chris Schwinden is on the bump for Savannah.

Brooklyn visits Staten Island.

The new Dangermouse/Sparklehorse collaboration, Dark Night of the Soul is excellent.  “Angel’s Harp,” featuring Black Francis, stands alongside MGMT’s “Kids” as my favorite songs of the year.

Bingy’s lineup has Manny Garcia 9th and Malo leading off. Yup, lets get the prospects less AB’s and the utility men more…

St. Lucie in a rain delayed start, what else is new…
if they play Nieuwenhuis would be the DH despite Angel Pagan no longer forcing him out of CF.

Savannah also delayed by rain.
whoever had 2nd in the ‘where will Marte bat today’ pool is the winner.

Brooklyn is playing two in Staten Island. The Cyclones picked up a run without a hit by way of a HBP, wild pitch, and an error. But like always, the win in the first game was all about the pitching. Brandon Moore dealt another outstanding game, a 7 inning complete game shutout, with 8 punchouts.
He has allowed 2 ER in 4 starts, while going 7 IP or more each time. In 29 IP he’s allowed 20 baserunners and struck out 24.
Robbie Shields played his first game going 0-3 with a K.
Jim Fuller will start game two on the mound.

Down in the GCL, Yohan Almonte put together another good outing (6 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 10 K). He’s surrendered just 1 ER in 4 starts (the first few of which were severely pitch count limited). Anyway, in 13.2 IP he’s struck out 17, while walking just 1, surrendering 10 hits, and posting a BAA of .196 and a GB/FB ratio of 1.88. Between Almonte and Jhonathan Torres (3 starts, 16 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 14 K), both of whom are 19 years old, the Mets look like they have themselves another pair of solid young international starters.

Toby, Toby, Toby. I love ya, dawg, but his name is “Black Francis” or if you prefer “Frank Black”. Also, “Kids” comes off of MGMT’s album Oracular Spectacular, which came it in 2007…and then was released as a single in 2008…so it can’t really contend as a best song of this year.

I knew someone would bust me on “kids.” I meant it was the song of my spring. You know how there are times and places for music? There were a few months in there where I couldn’t go to a party without hearing “Kids”.

Excuse the f-up on Black Francis. That’s just inexcusable sloppiness. I actually prefer calling him Frank Black, which was the name he was using in his PIxies days, but he seems to be going on Black Francis these days. He and Grand Duchy will be in NYC at the free Coney Island Festival on 7/18.

just kidding, they were a great party music band for senior year of college.

they’re pathetic live though.
