Bontemps: Scout: Bisons Goofing Off
By Toby Hyde - Jul 16, 2009 1:30 pm

new-bisons-primary-logoAt his very fine Beating the Bushes Blog at the New York Post, Tim Bontemps talked to a scout who had nothing nice to say about the Buffalo Bisons:

“Buffalo is one of the worst Triple-A teams I have ever seen,” the scout said. “You need a birth certificate to play – 30 years or older.

“I have to tell you what ticked me off, watching them. The team is 25 games under .500, and I know that they’re a bunch of veterans and older guys …. but they’re taking batting practice and they’re screwing around. They’re not taking ground balls, not working on things … they’re just taking swings, and they’re goofing around doing that.

“If you are losing and getting your ass handed to you, at least try to do something about it.”

Yikes.  Yeah, there’s no position player down there that the Mets care about, but that’s hardly news.

But seriously, though, at what point does people talking $hit about the Bisons lose the ability to convey new information?  After starting 2-17, the Bisons are 30-37 since May 2.  That’s not good, but at seven games under .500 its not that much worse than the MLB team or out of the range of ordinary for AAA.

who cares? seriously. i am absolutely flabbergasted that shitty washed up players playing for a shitty team in a shitty city aren’t busting their ass taking grounders before games. somebody think of the children!

It is somewhat understandable, hopefully next year a better, younger roster is provided for Buffalo. Otherwise the Mets might be changing affiliates yet again.

About the only thing that it does is ruin Oberkfel’s managerial prospects. I think he actually turned down a job on the big league coaching staff because he preferred managing AAA. Not looking like the best move…
