Couple things I’ve been meaning to get to.
VP Tony Bernazard
Bill Madden in the NY Daily News demands that GM Omar Minaya fire VP Bernazard.
There’s no need for any investigation here. Fire the guy and fire him now.
…For Minaya to say he’s “investigating” the matter is either an insult to our intelligence or an acknowledgment that all of this despicable behavior by his assistant is somehow news to him.
…
You can only wonder now: What else is it going to take to open the Wilpons’ eyes to the fact that Bernazard is a cancer within their ballclub – an angry, vindictive, divisive force who has to go now, and not after some lengthy, phony investigation? It seems to me that the Wilpons turning this over to Minaya is a clear indication of what they want him to do.
Never one to miss out on a good controversy,
Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News wrote on
his Inside Pitch Blog:
Bernazard is reported to be at home in New Jersey and won’t be visiting any affiliates anytime soon. His next stop should be the unemployment line.
Lucas Duda

Yesterday, at his
Surfing the Mets Blog, Adam Rubin wrote about Lucas Duda, who’s moved positions again, shifting out to LF at AA Binghamton to accomodate Ike Davis’s arrival at first.
“I’m a work-in-progress out there,” Duda acknowledged. “Hopefully I’ll get better out there and become an average outfielder and get the job done.”
…
“I did play outfield in college,” Duda said. “Here the game is more faster. Guys hit the ball a little harder. I just have to make adjustments.”
Brad Holt – Untouchable
A

t
Baseball America, John Manuel wrote about prospects who were too valuable to their current organizations to be traded, making them all but untouchable, including in his estimation, RHP
Brad Holt. He writes:
The best homegrown arm in system has reached Double-A in his first pro season and is comparable stuff-wise to Mike Pelfrey, only with a better breaking ball.
If his breaking ball is better, and it is, then why is he comparable to Pelfrey? I know the answer – big RHP with good fb velocity, but still, I think this comparison is of limited use at this point.
Also on Manuel’s list: C Buster Posey (SF), Jhoulys Chacin & Esmil Rogers (COL), Jordan Lyles & Ross Seaton (HOU), Danny Valencia (MIN), Jesus Montero (NYY), Tim Beckham (TB), Mike Stanton (FLA), Jason Heyward (ATL), Clay Bucholz (BOS), and Martin Perez (TEX) .

On baseball primer the D’Backs scout ( Carlos Gomez )
has stated the incident with Bernazard as follows.
This is his direct quote.
“Just for the record Mr Bernazard did not scream at me, as in, at all.
We didn’t even exchange words. The story is WAY wrong and blown WAY out of proportion and makes him look much worse that what actually happened.
Tony did not
( I Repeat )
did NOT treat me that way ( at all )
and I’d hope Mr. Madden fixes his story.
Don’t think Tony deserves that………”
I believe the reports were that Tony B. yelled at a Mets employee who objected to asking the Arizona scout to move. Unless Madden missed that and put bad info in his article..
Read Maddens story.
He clearly states Tony B had an ugly public exchange with
scout Carlos Gomez.
Not trying to defend Tony B
But clearly the Daily News has an agenda
well that’s just incompetence on the part of Madden. Unfortunately that happens often… so I doubt it was intentional.
Did you mean the baseball think factory newsblog primer? I didn’t see the article over there. And you’re absolutely right in that Madden misrepresents Rubin’s original story. Bernazard is supposed to have yelled at a Mets employee in front of other scouts and fans.

It is in the Newsblog discussion today.
You can’t miss the quote and a very good source to me this is Carlos Gomez
who is a frequent contributor.
tony bernazard must be putting guns to these guys’ heads since it seems like everyone is defending him.
Tony B is still a problem though, just like cousin Tony B in the sopranos. and we all know what happened to him.
I’m not surprised to see Holt being considered untouchable. He’s close enough to the big leagues to be considered part of the immediate future, rather than just part of the future.
I think the Mets would be more likely to trade someone like Maine.
