Rookie-Ball Sunday: Aldama Keeps Rolling

By Toby Hyde on 24. Aug, 2009

eduardo-aldama-leg-upRookie (APP): Kingsport Mets 2, @ Bristol White Sox 1 (7 innings)

RHP Eduardo Aldama (5-0, 3.70 – pictured) held the Sox to one run on three hits in five innings while fanning six.

The 19-year-old Aldama’s been one of the nicest stories in the Mets system in August after a very rough July.  In July, Aldama owned a 7.17 ERA in 21.1 innings with 17 strikeouts against 14 walks.  Now, in August, Aldama sports  1.82 ERA.  In 24.2 innings, he’s allowed just 18 hits more impressively has struck out 27 batters against just three walks.  Entering the season, I had Aldama ranked #38 in the Mets system, but he’ll surely rise up this winter. The picture of the skinny Aldama is from the 2008 season in the GCL.

RF Cesar Puello (.273/.348/.406) helped support Aldama with a homer, his fourth of hte year and a walk, his seventh.

Rookie (APP): Kingsport Mets 5, @ Bristol White Sox 4 (7 innings)

The K-Mets took advantage of ten hits and four Sox errors in game two in a bullpen-game.

Rookie (GCL): @ GCL Marlins 4, GCL Mets 2

3B Aderlin Rodriguez (.270/.413/.432) was 2-5, his first multi-hit game as a professional in 11 tries.  CF Javier Rodriguez was 2-4.

i’m on full alert RE: aderlin.

i loved tejada solely because of his awesome walks in the GCL.

considering aderlin was a bigger recruit with tools, adding walks to that mix at such a young age is awesome.
