Brooklyn Offense MIA in Playoff Loss

By Toby Hyde on 09. Sep, 2009

Game 1 (Best of 3): Mahoning Valley Scrappers 3, @ Brooklyn Cyclones 1

santomauro-cyclones-headshotMark Cohoon pitched well enough, but the Brooklyn offense managed just five hits in their Game 1 loss Tuesday night.  Brooklyn now must win two in a row at Eastman Field in Ohio, where the Scrappers were 27-13 at him this year.  Although it is likely to be little consolation to any of Cyclones on the bus-ride west, they were the NYP League’s best road team this year at 24-13.

In seven innings of work, Cohoon allowed three runs, two of which were earned on five hits.  He didn’t walk a batter, but struck out eight.

A single swing from LF Nick Santomauro (pictured) scored Brooklyn’s only run on an opposite field solo HR.  2B Jordany Valdespin was 2-4 at the top of the Brooklyn order.
