Mejia is the probable starter today for Surprise.. unfortunately the game is in Scottsdale, so no pitch f/x.

simplify and quicken could well equal shorten, and yes, that could take away from his power.

Simplifying also relates to cutting down on the movement throughout his body, that's really ingrained. If it's working for him now, let it keep working....

eh. that's just part of the progression of being a prospect. that's what AAA is for. klaw didn't say he won't hit them, he just said he's yet to make the adjustment, indicating that it's well within the realm of possibility that he can.

you have him play in AAA this year, where he'll see the figueroas of the world, who can spin breaking balls and change-ups, and presumably he'll struggle and then figure it out.

well, if this is accurate, he better get working on making adjustments (maybe the Mets can find the spare change to hire a hitting coach for the minors?), or it sounds like Mike Jacobs v2.0

simplify and quicken the swing really shouldn't take away his power, right?

klaw on ike:

Ike Davis of the New York Mets looks much better now than he did as an amateur, although all he really showed this week is that he can hit a fastball and can’t make the adjustment (yet) to anything else. He’s in much better shape overall — less jacked up and more athletic — and showed it at first base as well. He has legitimately plus pull power and has some bat speed, although he loads his hands pretty far down and has a lot of excess movement, all of which costs him a little time. He looked bad against all off-speed pitches but just murdered fastballs.
