Allen Vids, Santomauro Reads

By Toby Hyde on 04. Nov, 2009

+Mike Newman of Scouting the Sally.com has video up of RHP Kyle Allen from his time in Savannah this summer.

+ Pete Spiewak in the Examiner writes about Brooklyn Cyclones OF Nick Santomauro who has returned to Dartmouth where he is just two quarters away from a degree. How do you know you’re dealing with an Ivy League athlete?  This type of quote, for one:

“I think the second I had some kind of cognitive thought I knew I wanted to be a professional baseball player.”

In the New York Penn League in 2009, the patient and powerful Santomauro hit .241/.368/.441.  Santomauro tied for the team lead with six bombs and led the Cyclones in walk rate.  His slash line looks better when compared to the NYP League averages of a .245/.320/.351.  Santomauro explains the genesis of his approach:

“I just wanted to wait for a pitch that I could handle and if I didn’t get it, I would take my base, because I knew I’d be helping the team out by getting on base,” Santomauro said about his approach at the plate.

I really like Santomauro. Hes one of the players that’s on my list to watch out for next year in St Lucie.

I don’t think I’d ever have a grammar contest against him, that’s for sure.

What worries me with him is that he’s so smart that he over thinks things in the batter’s box due to the atmospheric waves of the lunar equation of left hex angular vector from the unidentified planet’s solar system…LOL

It’s amazing the education he nearly completed, if baseball fails him, he’ll be very successful.
