Carter Powers Buffalo in Home Opener

By Toby Hyde on 15. Apr, 2010

@ Buffalo Bisons 8, Pawtucket Red Sox 2

Knuckleballing RA Dickey threw 122 pitches for the complete game victory in the Bisons home opener.

For the second straight game RF Fernando Martinez was 2-4 with a double.  In 29 AB, he’s struck out 7 times without walking once.  It’s early and all, but that doesn’t seem like a big league approach.

DH Chris Carter was the offensive star, going 4-4 with a triple, two doubles and 4 RBI.  (In unrelated news, in Denver, 1B Mike Jacobs was 1-3 to improve to 3-for-18 (.167/.286/.389) this year.)
Josh Thole took another 0-for, but did pick a runner off of first base.

Martinez actually has 29 AB (30 PA), but your conclusion holds. He’s really gotta learn how to take a few walks or there’s not much point in swapping him in for Francoeur.

It’ll be fun to see how Ike and company fare against Diasuke Matsuzaka this afternoon.
