#21 – RHP Manny Alvarez

By Toby Hyde on 17. Mar, 2011

Bats/Throws: R/R

Height/Weight: 5’11”/200

Acquired: FA ‘07

Born: 12/18/85 (Caracas, VZ)

2010 Rank: NR

Why Ranked Here: Alvarez pitched his way from advanced-A to AAA.  He misses bats and doesn’t walk anyone.  The Mets added him to the 40-man roster, so he’s just an injury, or a dominant streak of his own from the big league bullpen.

He throws a two-seamer, a four-seamer and a cutter and took off, says Director of Minor League Operations Adam Wogan because, “he suddenly had great movement with better command and he took off.”

2010: Alvarez was dominant at St. Lucie to start the year, missed lots of bats at Binghamton too, and got a taste of AAA Buffalo to end 2010.

Dr. Pangloss Says: A really good middle-reliever.

Debbie Downer Says: A one-year wonder.

Projected 2011 Start: Buffalo

MLB Arrival: 2011
