#22 – 2B Brad Emaus

By Toby Hyde on 17. Mar, 2011

Bats/Throws: R/R

Height/Weight: 6’0”/200 lbs

Acquired: Rule 5 Draft 2010 (Toronto)

Born: 3/28/86 (Kalamazoo, MI)

2010 Rank: NR

Why Ranked Here: Emaus earned this rank by heading to spring training as part of the Mets’ four-headed competition for the second-base job.  That’s much closer to an everyday big league job than the vast majority of players will ever achieve.

At the plate, Emaus’ most distinguishing characteristic is his discerning plate eye; he walked as many times as he struck out in AAA.  He has a well rounded offensive game.  He makes contact and possesses enough power to be an asset ast second base.

In the field, Emaus has bounced between second and third bases in the last four years with the Blue Jays.  He played second base exclusively in 2009, but by AAA in 2010 palyed 76 games at third and just 10 at second.

2010: Promoted to AAA on June 1, Emaus’ .298/.395/.495 line appears awfully impressive.  However, it was sustained in part by a .327 BABIP.  More damning is that he hit .338/.408/.609 in 41 games at home in hitter-friendly Las Vegas and just .259/.383/.386 in 46 games on the road.

Dr. Pangloss Says: Emaus makes the Mets, and provides OBP from the second-base position.

Debbie Downer Says: Emaus is offered back to the Blue Jays or claimed on waivers by another organization.
