#25 – RHP Josh Stinson

By Toby Hyde on 15. Mar, 2011

Bats/Throws: R/R

Height/Weight: 6’4”/210

Acquired: 37th Rd 2006 (Northwood HS)

Born: 3/14/88 (Shreveport, LA)

2010 Rank: NR

Why Ranked Here: Stinson just keeps advancing through the system, improving all the time.  Armed with a low 90s fastball, and a full four-pitch mix, Stinson earned a rotation spot for the B-Mets when others stumbled.

He’d be higher if his strikeout rate was any higher. Also, he was better, much better than teammate Brad Holt in 2010.  At some point, performance has to matter.

2010: Stinson worked out of the B-Mets bullpen until May 24th, at which point he moved into the starting rotation.  As a starter, he gave up more walks and more hits while striking out fewer batters, as the chart below makes plain.

ERA G/GS IP H R ER HR BB SO BB/9 SO/9 SO/BB HR/9 H/9
Reliever 3.20 18/0 39.33 33 15 14 3 15 26 3.4 5.9 1.7 0.7 7.6

Total 4.24 36/18 110.33 108 57 52 7 50 68 4.1 5.5 1.4 0.6 8.8

Promoted to AAA on August 22, his second start at the minors’ highest levels was one of his best of the entire 2010 season, when he hurled seven shutout innings with one walk and nine strikeouts at Syracuse.

Dr. Pangloss Says: I see a cheap MLB swingman.

Debbie Downer Says: I see an org arm who didn’t miss enough bats at AA to make me think he can succeed at the MLB level.

Projected 2011 Start: AAA

MLB Arrival: Late 2011 or 2012
