#33 – LHP Josh Edgin

By Toby Hyde on 07. Mar, 2011

Bats/Throws: L/L

Height/Weight: 6’1”/225

Acquired: 30th Rd 2010 (Francis Marion U)

Born: 12/17/86

2010 Rank: NR

Why Ranked Here: I think Edgin has a chance to shoot through the system as a fastball/slider lefty.  He was 91-92 out of the bullpen for Savannah in the playoffs and when I saw him in Kingsport earlier in the summer.  His slider was a weapon at 81-82 mph.   Basically, he’s real close to having two MLB pitches already in the fastball and slider.  In the Appy League, Edgin also induced twice as many ground ball outs as air outs.

2010: Edgin’s numbers at Peach Belt Conference member Francis Marion University were pretty unexceptional: 84 IP, 96 H, 45 R, 38 ER, 22 BB, 65 So.  However, his professional performance out of the bullpen for Kingsport and Savannah was much more impressive.

Dr. Pangloss Says: The portly Edgin will become a cheap, homegrown LOOGY.  I like my bullpens with a healthy dash of lefty.

Debbie Downer Says: The Ohio State transfer was ordinary in DII and now it’s supposed to work at the in pro ball? Color me skeptical.

Projected 2011 Start: St. Lucie

MLB Arrival: 2013
