Why Ranked Here: Jimmy Fuller formed, alongside Mark Cohoon, one of the best 1-2 pitching punches in the SAL in the first half of the 2010 season. Fuller owned the better fastball of the pair, but less impressive control. He regularly sat 88-89 mph, and would touch 91 early in games. He became more comfortable with his curveball. His changeup made significant strides over the course of the season, as there were nights when he relied heavily on the offering. When he was on, he made quick work of opposing SAL lineups by inducing weak pop-ups and plenty of strikeouts. Friend of MMiLB, Mike Newman of Scoutingthesally.com, thinks that Fuller’s slider, which he never threw in games, but showed in the bullpen is his best breaking ball. Fuller had a tendency to work up in the zone, but in spacious Historic Grayson Stadium, in front of an athletic set of outfielders, that was a winning strategy. Will upper level hitters punish him for working up in the zone? Fuller has had a modest history of elbow and shoulder trouble in his time as a professional which will help push him to the bullpen.
2010: Fuller allowed as many as three runs just once in his first 11 starts for the Sand Gnats. He earned the win on June 20th in Augusta, in the Gnats’ 9-5 win that clinched the first-half championship. Fuller, the only one of the Gnats’ six all-stars to rejoin the team for the start of the second half, sat out a few weeks with an inflamed elbow, but still made 24 a career-high 24 starts combining his time in Savannah and St. Lucie.
