Young seventeen-year old shortstop Wilmer Flores got his first taste of
Grapefruit League action against the Nationals at Port St. Lucie yesterday afternoon.
He played the whole game, hitting out of the eigth spot, and went 1-for-4. According to Adam Rubin at his Daily News blog, Wilmer swung at the first pitch in his first two plate apppearances.
He will be in the lineup again today against the Nationals, hitting sixth and playing short. C Josh Thole is also slated to start, hitting fifth.
RHP Dillon Gee started yesterday and continued his solid spring training showing. He went two innings, allowing just a walk while striking out two.
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: keep your on dillon gee… he’s pitched well at every level he’s been on, including this winter in puerto rico… if the mets suffer some pitching injuries in the rotation this summer, you’re bound to hear his name surface…
Meanwhile OF Angel Pagan was be sent back to New York to have an MRI exam performed on his sore right elbow. Joel Sherman reported in the New York Post on Thursday that ‘the Mets front-office sees Angel Pagan as a favorite to be a reserve on the team.’
