Why Chase Huchingson is hard to hit

By Toby Hyde on 14. Mar, 2012

I have lots of spring training video that I’ve been a little delinquent getting edited.  This one is fun.

Chase Huchingson just missed my pre-season Top 41 prospects. The non-drafted free-agent had a really nice 2011 with Savannah, working to a 1.82 ERA in 84 IP, including eight starts. He faned 91 batters and walked 25 in 84 IP. The Mets moved him to the bullpen in the latter half of the season to keep his innings down. He had split his time as a pitcher and outfielder at the University of Central Arkansas, so he had very few innings on his arm prior to 2011.

Juan Lagares Takes Batting Practice (Video)

By Toby Hyde on 08. Mar, 2012

Juan Lagares had a great 2011, hitting .349/.383/..500 with 26 doubles and nine home runs between advanced-A and double-A. Add in that he’s a good defensive outfielder with a strong arm, and the Mets have said he’ll play more centerfield, and he becomes an even better prospect.

Cesar Puello Takes Batting Practice (Video)

By Toby Hyde on 05. Mar, 2012

I spent a significant amount of my time in Port St. Lucie last week marveling at the progress Cesar Puello had made as a hitter since I first saw him on a daily basis in 2010, or since I first saw him in the GCL in 2008.

There should be, at a minimum, one new video of a prospect from spring training every day for the next two weeks around here. Sometimes more.

And I talked about it.

For comparison’s sake, here’s Nimmo from August, 2011.

Spring Training is great.
