AAA: @ Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees 5, Buffalo Bisons 3
Manny Acosta gave up a two-run triple and allowed another run to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, that gave Scranton the 5-3 victory. Casey Fossum started: 4 2/3 IP, 6 hits, 2 er, 3bb, 6k. The Bisons offense could only muster five hits, the big blow coming from a two-run double by Russ Adams (1-4, 2B, 2rbi).
AA: New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, @ Binghamton Mets 1
The B-Mets wasted a strong start from Brad Holt (7 IP, 4 hits, 0 runs, 1bb, 5k), as the Fisher Cats rallied for two runs in the ninth, to defeat Binghamton 2-1. Eric Niesen came in to close the game, but gave up a game winning two-run homerun to Adam Calderone. The offense struggled once again, as they only managed two hits and one run. The lone B-Mets run came on a Brahiam Maldonado (1-3, HR(3), rbi) homerun in the bottom of the eighth.
The story of the game was Holt. Holt, who has yet to give up a run in twelve innings of work this year, was in control of the game throughout. He had a remarkable 10/1 GBO/FO ratio. So far this year Holt has held opponents to a .163 average. Holt’s fastball was reported at 89-94, and began to lose velocity after the 3rd inning. While I am not ready to say Holt is back to dominant form, he surely seems to think so: (via Binghamton Press-Connects)
Holt:” I feel like I’m back on track. It’s just like how I’ve always pitched. I’ve always had confidence. I’m not trying reinvent anything or make anything happen. I’m just trying to do what I know how to do.”
Thanks to the fine media folks in Binghamton, check out these highlights on Holt and the game from last night: (From the highlights it looks like Holt has improved his offspeed stuff a bit)
A+: @ St. Lucie Mets 5, Charlotte Stone Crabs 4- 10 innings
Rafael Fernandez (1-4,2rbi) tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run single, and Juan Ceteno (1-1, 2 runs, HR, 2rbi) won the game in the bottom of the tenth in walk-off style with a two-run homerun. The win takes St. Lucie to a FSL best 8-1 record.
Kyle Allen started for St. Lucie: 4 2/3 IP, 3 hits, 1 er, 2bb, 2k.
Jefry Marte (1-4, HR (1), rbi) smacked his first homerun of the season.
